OPERATION GREEN LEAVES ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER & VOLUNTEER VILLAGE

Operation Green Leaves , CC International  and Architect for Humanity, Miami Chapter are currently developing a project that has the potential to be a true “game changing” development for all of Haiti.  The three organizations bring complimentary assets to the project. OGL has a long history of working on the local level and organizing Haitian partners, CC International has organized and implemented human service, disaster relief, and environmental projects for over eighty universities. Together we can bring the local and international expertise together that will result in Haiti’s first certified Carbon Sequestration Project, a true game changing event.

In order to better serve the Haitian population, Operation Green Leaves, a non-governmental organization aiming at reforesting Haiti by means of distribution of seedlings, is going to build an environmental center in a donated plot of land in Arcahaie, Haiti. The environmental center will serve as a seed distribution center, and a community center and will also have classrooms for workshops on the environment for kids, youth and adults.

The 30 plus acre project site has been is fully owned and has been inspected by Operation Green Leaves Inc. The next step is to make improvements and develop additional agreements that will prepare the site to be a destination for university programs interested in sending teams to assist in Haiti’s recovery. Community Collaborations International has relationships with over eighty US Universities and several have already expressed interest in sending teams of student and faculty volunteers.

We are currently soliciting DONORS, SPONSORS FOR THE PROJECT.  Call 1-877-85TREES or visit: www.oglhaiti.com

A simple plan for lasting change

Project Update April 2010

The 30 acre plus property was donated to Operation Green Leaves Haiti and is fully owned by the organization. Its location and attributes make it an excellent location for the proposed project. All we need to do now is raise some money! We invite you to join us in making this important project a reality.

We just returned from our site assessment in Haiti. In Port au Prince tens of thousands are living in muddy tent cities with poor sanitation and no running water.
The project site is 45 minutes from the Port au Prince airport. Jennifer Siqueira from Architecture for Humanity supervised the evaluation of buildings on the property

The site has a swimming pool, several buildings, ten acres of irrigated land, and a wide variety of mature native trees and plants.

Our site visit took place at the end of the dry season in April. This river is part of a major watershed and flows rapidly from May - October.

But the schools are open and each day children in perfectly clean school uniforms, shined shoes, and hair ribbons emerge from the rubble. I couldn't help but think about my own eight year old daughter, getting her ready for school each day, looking for that clean shirt. I admit, the Haitian kids living in these dire circumstances looked better. It is a statement to the pride , values, and resilience of the Haitian people.

David Rizzuti, Community Collaborations International Volunteer Coordinator, assisted in evaluation of the facility. The site has a large house and several concrete buildings that are in need of repair but are structurally sound.

Steve Boisvert, Director of Community Collaborations International, evaluated the site.
